The share of commercial open source products (COSS) in the enterprise sector has tripled from 4% at the end of 2022 to 12% by mid-2023. This includes programs such as Astra Linux and Arenadata’s data management systems. Such data was presented by the Institute for World Market Research (IIMR), which analyzes software purchases of large and medium-sized companies such as NLMK, Russian Post and others.

COSS solutions, including data storage systems, are already used by organizations such as X5 Group, Magnit, Auchan and others. COSS developers get free access to the source code and earn money from additional services such as support and training.

It is predicted that the share of COSS in total IT solutions will increase to 32%, while the share of custom software will decrease to 36%. This is because more and more organizations are opting for open source products like PostgreSQL and containerization platforms like Deckhouse Kubernetes Platform.
