Launched in February 2024, Mozilla Monitor Plus offered users the ability to remove personal information from hundreds of people’s search sites using Onerep’s services. But on March 14, KrebsOnSecurity published a report highlighting that Onerep CEO Dimitri Shelest has experience building multiple people search services, including a now-operating data broker called Nuwber. Despite the initial silence, Shelest eventually admitted to owning Nuwber, saying there was “zero” information exchanged between the two companies. He also admitted to being interested in other search areas but insisted they were no longer active.
While Shelest justified his background in building Onerep’s technology as valuable experience, Mozilla clearly felt this tie-up went against their privacy-focused mission. In a statement released today, Onerep’s CEO said his “external financial interests and activities are not aligned with our values.”
Mozilla is currently working on a migration plan to ensure a seamless user experience when replacing Onerep with Monitor Plus.
