At the beginning of March, the first images of a possible new Windows 11 ‘feature’ were leaked: desktop stickers. It’s not yet clear when (and why) the feature will come to all Windows 11 users, but Windows Insiders running version 22621 or newer can give it a try with a registry change.
The settings menu for stickers is hidden by default, but you can open it as follows: Open the Registry Editor (for example, by typing “regedit” in the start menu) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\current\. device. Under “Device” (right click on “Device”, then New -> Key) create a new key with the name “Stickers”. Now create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named “EnableStickers” in the right, right-click menu. Double click the value to open it and change the 0 in the field to 1. Now press OK and restart your computer.
Extract functionality should now be part of the menu when you right-click on the desktop. Currently stickers only work with fixed backgrounds (so no slideshows).
Windows 11 22621 was released on the Windows Insiders Beta channel earlier this month and is considered the first 22H2 build. The version can also be downloaded as an ISO file.
