Sri Lanka has extended a pilot project to issue free visas to citizens of several countries, including Russia, until the end of April 2024. This was announced on the X social network by the head of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism, Harin Fernando.
The pilot project was scheduled to end on March 31. Within its framework, citizens of the Russian Federation, China, Japan, India, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia can benefit from a free visa for a period of 30 days.
Sri Lanka launched the free visa project in November 2023. It aims to restore the state’s tourism industry. The final decision on whether to terminate or expand the project will be made within a few weeks, Fernando said.
