The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation has launched inspections of the largest retail chains in several regions: the agency will evaluate the actions of companies with a view to concluding anti-competitive agreements, the FAS reported in a statement. The controls are related to egg prices.

The service is currently analyzing the price of chicken eggs throughout the entire supply chain. Previously, the FAS inspected chicken egg producers and opened proceedings against several of them.
The following retail chains will be subject to the new inspection: Perekrestok, Magnit, Dixy, Pyaterochka, Lenta, O’Key, Metro, Auchan.
If the FAS identifies signs of violation of antitrust legislation, it will take “response measures.”
At the end of last year, a significant increase in chicken egg prices was recorded in Russia. Starting in December, their retail prices increased an average of 15% monthly. In some regions, retail chains imposed restrictions on selling eggs to a single person.
