Although the PC and console market grew by 2.6% in 2023, reaching $93.5 billion, the number of hours players spent playing games decreased by 26% compared to 2021.

More than 60% of game time in 2023 is devoted to projects released 6 years or more ago! The leaders in terms of engagement were Fortnite, Roblox, League of Legends, Minecraft and GTA V, accounting for 27% of gaming hours globally.

Interest in new games is declining across almost all genres except third-person shooters (up 27%) and Action RPGs (up 5%).

Newzoo believes that 2024 will be a decisive year for the PC and console market. Streamers are losing players and revenues are falling. The situation is aggravated by the increasing popularity of gaming services.
