Quantum computers promise lightning-fast calculations that are not yet possible with classical machines.

Thanks to their operation at the “quantum” level, they can tackle incredibly complex tasks. But until now, the main problem has been the instability and high error rate of “cubits”, the basic units of information in quantum systems.

But Microsoft and Quantinuum found a solution. Their joint project made it possible to combine physical qubits with virtual qubits; This radically reduced the number of errors and provided unprecedented accuracy.

Microsoft was able to perform more than 14,000 calculations without a single error; This is 800 times better than working with physical qubits directly.

According to experts at the Redmond company, this breakthrough takes quantum computing to a new level. Computers previously considered experimental have now become sufficiently reliable for practical use.
