With this release, Sony continues its trend of releasing ports of its projects without third-party copyright protection systems, relying solely on core DRM services provided by digital distribution platforms Steam and the Epic Games Store.

This resulted in an old PlayStation 5 exclusive version being made available to torrents within the first hour of release with a working crack created in just 25 minutes.

Note that a similar fate befell other Sony exclusives that have appeared on PCs before: Returnal, God of War, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, as well as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Interestingly, despite the rapid release of the game on torrent sites, The Last of Us Part I enjoyed a successful launch on Steam. In the first few hours after release, its online peak was 35,000 players.
