The company today introduced Cloud TPU v5p, a powerful processor that challenges NVIDIA’s dominance.

Google’s new TPU is capable of training large language models (LLMs) almost three times faster than its predecessor. LLMs form the basis of advanced AI chatbots like ChatGPT.

Google’s announcement is another step in the artificial intelligence arms race between tech giants. Despite launching its own chips, the company still works closely with NVIDIA, one of its largest customers.

Google also announced the Axion ARM processor, which will compete with similar products from Microsoft and Amazon.

Note that Cloud TPU v5p significantly exceeds its predecessor in the speed of training AI models. Google also aims to reduce its dependence on NVIDIA by developing its own processors through this model.
