There is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, a debilitating neurodegenerative disease that affects millions of people worldwide. The search for a cure has been hampered by the slow and expensive process of screening large libraries of chemicals to identify those that block the binding of a protein called alpha-synuclein, a hallmark of the disease.

The Cambridge team’s AI approach uses machine learning to quickly analyze large libraries of chemicals and identify promising compounds. This method identified five highly effective candidates for further study.
