Details were announced by Virtuos’ technical art director Alexey Moskovchenko. According to its LinkedIn profile, the studio is working on an unannounced remake of the massive project for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC using Unreal Engine 5.

The official name of the game is not specified, but leaked information and rumors indicate that the game is Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

A former Virtuos employee, whose identity was verified by Reddit moderators, said: The project, codenamed “Altar”, is a remaster, or even remake, of Oblivion. According to him, discussions about the scale of the work are still ongoing in the studio.

It is stated that the game was developed based on the binary system. This means that the remake uses both the Unreal Engine 5 project and the original Oblivion engine.

For example, the graphics are rendered in Unreal Engine 5, but most of the gameplay and physics are still rendered by the original Oblivion.

It is stated that the release should take place in late 2024 or early 2025, depending on how large-scale the update will be.
