The company, headquartered in Veldhoven, Netherlands, said on Monday that it had signed a pre-development agreement with its home province of Eindhoven in the south of the country. ASML spokeswoman Monique Mols said in an email that the final decision remains pending resolution of many “significant issues.”
The Dutch government formed a working group and announced the spending last month after local media reported that the country’s most valuable company was considering expanding abroad. ASML, which produces the world’s most advanced lithography machines for chip production, aims to double its capacity by 2030, anticipating increased demand from the semiconductor industry amid the boom in productive artificial intelligence.
As stated in the statement, ASML prefers to keep its main operations in the Netherlands “as close as possible to existing facilities in Veldhoven” and welcomes the government’s recent investment decisions. Some issues that need to be resolved before making a commitment are access to the power grid, housing availability and access to the road network, Mols said.
