Announcers offered commentary filled with phrases about “pushing the boundaries of science” as cars inexplicably veered off the track or made impromptu turns.

But remember: Autonomous racing is just getting started. These self-driving racers have a long way to go before they can challenge human drivers on the track. While the progress made since Roborace’s first full run in 2017 is undeniable, we’re still in the early stages.
