The number of people using the Tor browser in Russia has decreased from 100 thousand to 48 thousand in the last year. Experts believe that this is due to the fact that many users moved abroad and hacker forums began to actively use Telegram instead of the darknet.

Roskomnadzor does not monitor how Russian users connect to foreign sites. To prevent access to illegal information, they block Tor as a way to bypass blocks.

Experts note that the closure of some crypto exchanges in Russia also affects people’s ability to make money on the darknet. Later, the dark web was associated with Tor, but Telegram began to eliminate some of the activity and the purge of popular platforms such as Silk Road weakened interest in the dark web.
