Today I always have my iPhone 15 Pro Max with me. After the iPhone 11, which I had previously used for more than 3 years, the current Apple smartphone has become a real discovery in literally everything. This is written in detail here.
Moreover, 95% of the time I have a 15-inch MacBook Air in my backpack, which solves all my work tasks. At first I thought about buying a 16-inch MacBook Pro, but today I’m glad that I chose a lighter and more affordable solution. I wrote about it here.
To minimize the use of Lightning, I also switched from the first generation AirPods Pro to the second generation AirPods Pro with Type-C. I’ll definitely write about my experience using these completely wireless headphones.
I no longer have an Apple Watch or iPad – I just don’t need them right now, so I gave them up without any regrets.
However, There are still a lot of different products in my backpack that I want to talk about today. Some of them solve the problem of compatibility between ports, others just conveniently get to the main device or make life easier.
1. Kingston Nucleum Multiport Hub for MacBook Air
You will definitely need such a hub if you connect a laptop memory card or HDMI when necessary.
It is in Type-C and provides access to USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, as well as SD and microSD memory cards.
I’ve had this thing since 2017, when I bought my first MacBook without Type-A support. She never let me down, but she helped me regularly.
By the way, it’s great that it’s held in place with a short cable. I tried alternatives that plug in “directly”, but it always seems that they will break the laptop ports when they come, so I like this format much better.
Like other accessories that are attached to the backpack, this one is fairly scratched, but it does not interfere with their active use.
▶︎ Buy: 5,700 rub.
2. USB adapters ESR Type-A (female) to Type-C (male)
Manufacturers still very often equip their devices and accessories with USB-A ports, so similar adapters are needed to connect them to a MacBook.
Adapters that I have are at least 5 years old with USB 3.0 support work great and it takes a while to connect something old or something for which there is no Type-C cable at the other end.
ESR should not be excluded because they are all approximately the same in quality. The main thing is not to buy something too cheap, which may fall apart at the most inopportune moment.
▶︎ Buy an analogue of Baseus: 210 rub.
3. Miniature noname adapter from Type-C (female) to Lightning (male)
All my major Apple devices are already connected to USB-C, and for a long time I had to use a contraption like this.
This adapter can be connected to any Type-C → Type-C cable to charge something old that is still on Lightning.
In my case, this is only the Apple TV remote control. However, Apple today has enough devices that have not switched to the new interface, including AirPods Max, regular AirPods keyboards and mice, and much more.
▶︎ Buy an analogue of ISA: 110 rub.
4. Tiny noname adapter from Lightning (female) to Micro-USB (male)
This adapter is used in conjunction with electricity to connect something very old or specific.
This adapter uses the matryoshka principle. I put a Type-C → Lightning adapter on the Type-C → Type-C cable, and on it there is already Lightning → Micro-USB. Surprisingly, everything works.
I can’t remember the last time I needed a Micro-USB, but I’m pretty sure it was when I decided to throw that little thing out of my EDC kit.
▶︎ Buy analogue: 220 rub.
5. Short cable Verbatim Type-C → Type-C with USB 3.2.
A cable with a high data transfer rate is used if you need to transfer some large files from iPhone 15 Pro Max to MacBook.
I have a short cable in a metal braid that supports all the latest technologies in terms of data transfer speed.
It can also be used to charge anything, as well as transfer uncompressed videos from the iPhone 15 Pro Max to a MacBook for editing.
At one time I bought it for almost 10 thousand rubles, but that was a very long time ago, so today there are a lot of more affordable options.
▶︎ Buy an analogue of Cablexpert: 260 rub.
6. Tiny Sandisk Dual USB flash drive with Type-C and Type-A
Such a flash drive is often needed in order to transfer some specific music into a car or transfer files offline to an old Windows computer.
The main feature of this flash drive is the ability to connect it to any devices you wish. Sometimes this is necessary, but the further you go, the less often.
I generally have a 32 GB model, but you can take a little more just in case.
▶︎ Buy for 64 GB: 1,250 rub.
7. PopSockets iPhone Stand Holder with MagSafe
This thing is convenient to use not only for simply holding a large iPhone in your hands, but also for placing it on a table to watch videos.
I had the original PopSockets, which were brought to me from abroad as a gift.
It turned out that it is very convenient not only to hold a smartphone, but also to keep it on the table to watch something on YouTube. It’s a pity that you can’t place the large iPhone 15 Pro Max in a vertical position, only horizontally.
We have a lot of original things on sale that will be more pleasant in price, and in quality, if any, then little.
▶︎ Buy analogue: 520 rub.
8. “Paperclip” for removing your SIM card from the iPhone.
From time to time, everyone needs to perform some procedures with SIM cards, so you can’t do without a “paperclip”.
Sometimes you need to change your SIM card very urgently. Moreover, a couple of times I encountered the fact that the iPhone stopped seeing the SIM card at the most unexpected moment, for a reason unknown to me, so I just had to take it out of the device and insert it back.
I still have a couple of original iPhone “clips” that have not been lost. But on sale there are mass options for every taste for pennies.
▶︎ Buy 3 pieces: 115 rub.
9. Apple AirTag for emergency backpack search.
Just look how badly the tag is scratched, and it’s just lying around with other things in and out of the bag.
Take the tags you need to find your lost items. They connect to the closed network of Apple devices and update their data through them. All information is displayed in the Latitude.
Recently I couldn’t find my backpack when moving to another apartment. It turned out that I forgot it near the entrance when I was moving things. It’s good that I was able to quickly find him before anyone had time to lay an eye on him. Thanks AirTag.
▶︎ Buy: 2,200 rub.
10. Victorinox Huntsman knife + Leatherman ARC multitool
Most often you take a Swiss knife and a multi-tool with you, so you can open a banal bottle and do something at home or in the office.
Today I use both the Victorinox Huntsman Swiss knife, which I wrote about here, and the flagship Leatherman ARC multitool, which I wrote about here.
I need the first one for simpler tasks: opening a bottle or jar, “cutting” a pizza or something else, and so on.
The second servant, instead of a whole box of tools, recently used it, for example, to assemble new bar stools for the apartment, and also cut plastic flooring tiles (similar to IKEA) with piles for the balcony.
With the opening of the cycling picnic season, such multitools are becoming even more in demand, although even today the task of detection is a no-no for them.
▶︎ Buy Victorinox Huntsman: 4,000 rub.
▶︎ Buy Leatherman ARC: 45,000 rub.
