A video comparison of the base 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 and M2 processors has been released on the Max Tech channel. The notebooks have been tested in typical applications and the results have been mixed.

The MacBook Pro with M1 exported photos to Lightroom faster. It took him 3 minutes 36 seconds to export 50 images, while the M2 model took 4 minutes 12 seconds.

It took 2 minutes 25 seconds to save a 5-minute 4K video on the M1 MacBook Pro and 2 minutes 25 seconds on the M2 version. Thus, the new MacBook Pro was 2 seconds faster.

At the same time, in the test for transferring files with an external hard drive, it manifests itself by a wide margin. A 35 GB video was saved on the MacBook Pro with M1 in 34 seconds, while on the M2 version it took 1 minute 25 seconds.

Different results lie with the fact that the base configuration of the MacBook Pro M2 has a slow SSD installed. The MacBook Pro with M1 has a hard drive that’s twice as fast.

It is not known why Apple made this change. But only applies to the 256 GB version of the MacBook Pro. With a 512 GB SSD and above, there are no speed limits.
