The Chinese ByteDance, owner of the vertical video service TikTok, filed a lawsuit against the United States government. In it, the company tries to challenge the law signed by Joe Biden in April 2024 on the forced sale or blocking of the service in the United States, writes The Wall Street Journal.

ByteDance claims that it is impossible to comply with the law’s requirements, especially within the stated deadline of 270 days. The company highlighted that the Chinese government opposes the sale of technologies on whose operation the quality of the service and the operation of the recommendation algorithm depend.

Additionally, in the lawsuit, ByteDance points out that the law violates the First Amendment, which establishes the right to freedom of expression. Additionally, blocking TikTok in the US could hurt businesses, ByteDance noted.

The law on the sale or blocking of TikTok in the United States was signed in April, the Chinese authorities opposed its sale; In the United States, TikTok is accused of collecting data from American users and potentially transferring it to the Chinese government.
