This was stated by the author of the law, Gerard de Graaf. According to him, the law will help fight monopoly. Above all, this concerns Apple as a tech giant that can restrict users’ freedom when interacting with digital technology.

Such companies will be given the status of “gatekeeper”. Apple is the main candidate for this status in the EU. This means that Apple may not be in a hurry to open access to other iOS app stores, the authorities will gradually implement such a policy, but the requirements for the company as a “guard” will be the most stringent. Monopoly will be suppressed in every possible way.

“If you have an iPhone, you should be able to download apps not only from the App Store but also from other app stores or the Internet,” said Gerard de Graaf.
