The material’s properties make it promising for creating lighter and stronger parts for cars, airplanes and spacecraft. They are based on fiber-metal laminates consisting of alternating layers of glass or carbon fiber and metal.

SPbPU scientists improved adhesion between layers of material through the use of nanomaterial – fullerene soot. The result is a composite that has strength properties superior to many aluminum alloys and also has high impact strength.

According to scientists, such research is important for improving the properties of existing fiber-metal laminates as well as developing new methods for joining composite and metal parts.
