The study, published in JAMA Network Open, found that among men at high risk of prostate cancer, those who consumed large amounts of plant-based foods nearly halved their chances of developing the type of cancer. This is compared to those who eat small amounts of plant foods.

Additionally, consuming a mostly plant-based diet helps reduce the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and overall death.

More than 2,000 men participated in the new study. Their average age was 65 years and they were diagnosed with non-metastatic prostate cancer. This means that the disease has not yet spread to other parts of the body.

It was revealed that those who consumed the most plant foods had a 47% lower risk of cancer spreading throughout the body. Peak consumption levels of these foods include 1.9 additional servings of vegetables, 1.6 additional servings of fruit, and 0.9 additional servings of whole grains per day.
