S7 Technics, part of the S7 Group, has learned to overhaul the engines of the CFM56-5B and 7B aircraft, which are equipped with Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft. According to sources, S7 Technics specialists will repair aircraft engines of other airlines instead of those of foreign manufacturers that have left the Russian market.

Currently, about 800 CFM56 engines are used in Russia; They are mainly equipped with aircraft from the Aeroflot fleet. According to a Kommersant source, Russian carriers are almost completely deprived of the possibility of repairing components abroad. Most often, the problem is solved by purchasing used motors.

In Russia, although some types of repairs are carried out, the most complex work on restoring the hot part has not been mastered in the country.

According to a newspaper source, S7 Technics has learned how to recondition the modules of the low pressure turbine (LPT), the low pressure compressor (LPC) and the hot part, the gas generator.

Now, as the publication’s interlocutor notes, S7 is already overhauling the Honeywell 131-9A and Honeywell 131-9B auxiliary power units (APUs), which are equipped with the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737, respectively.

From Rosatiatsiya data it follows that the group received permission to carry out a major overhaul of the Honeywell RE220 APU for the SSJ 100 only this year.

The company itself confirmed to the newspaper that it had begun to repair the hot end of the CFM56-5B and 7B. According to S7, since October 2022 the company has carried out 12 major repairs at S7 Technics in Sheremetyevo. In the future, the group could create a test bench to test reconditioned engines.

As the newspaper’s source clarified, the review of the LPT and LPC CFM56 in Russia can take 70-80 days. According to him, the price of work is approximately the same as abroad. However, repairs are cheaper than buying a used engine.
