Scientists buried nylon tea bags containing green tea and herbal tea in the ground and watched the changes in their mass. Due to the rapid breakdown of tea components by soil microbes, they can determine the level of microorganism activity.
Analysis of the results showed that in the northern regions of Russia microbes decompose organic matter more slowly than in the southern regions. A decrease in the mass of bags was also observed in urban soils, which is probably due to increasing temperatures and the presence of large reserves of organic matter, the press service noted.
