Research shows that many of us struggle with a sense of lack of time. In fact, a study conducted in a secondary school revealed that 80% of people felt that they did not have enough time during the day. And that’s 10% more than ten years ago.

Research also shows that lack of time is associated with increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol. This can lead to increased blood pressure and risk of heart disease.

In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that 3/4 of a million people die each year from heart disease and stroke due to overwork.

Additionally, lack of time is the number one cause of burnout. Research shows that feeling pressed for time can cloud your mind, harm memory function and concentration, and make you more likely to make riskier decisions.

Here are five ways to help you take control of your time.

Just say no. According to research, it is better not to reject someone due to lack of time. Instead, ask the person for more time to do something, make it clear that you are saying “no” due to circumstances beyond your control, or offer no excuses.

Do a time audit. Mapping how you use your time is a great way to see where you can devote a little more time. Start by recording all your actions over a period of time. For example, in a week.

Delegate tasks. For example, you can call a cleaning service (at least occasionally), buy a robot vacuum cleaner, or order food at home. Yes, it will be more expensive, but it will save you a few hours. Research also shows that investing your money in time rather than items is much better for one’s well-being.

Write a list of things you’ve done before. Keeping a daily success journal is one way to experience victory. Take time every few days to see how much you’ve accomplished.

Set time limits for yourself. To do this, allocate certain periods of the day to specific tasks. For example, give yourself only 30 minutes a day on social networks; this should only be possible while commuting.
