Android 15 finally unveiled in more detail on the second day of Google I/O, this Tuesday (14). The operating system is only planned to be released in the second half of this year, but now we have confirmation on how the new features and artificial intelligence (AI) will be implemented on mobile phones.
The first developer preview of Android 15 was released in February. Although very few features were revealed, by then the system was showing changes that the company had been developing over the last few months. According to Google’s schedule, the update is expected to reach a stable state in June. Final release planned for mid-July and August.
One of the important improvements in Android 15 is related to security. Now third-party applications will have more difficulty collecting private data from users who will be operating in a secure space (sandbox). The update also implements o Privacy Indicator, a dedicated area to manage permissions for features such as camera and microphone.
A nice plugin is the following possibility: use more native camera features in social media apps. With Android 15, applications will be able to access APIs and system resources to increase usability in these situations. With this, it will even be possible to control the intensity of the device’s flash when taking photos or shooting movies.
Performance and battery improvements in Android 15
In terms of performance, Google has made adjustments to the Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF). The focus here is on optimization in games, but the API set can be extended to other applications as well. In practice, this means that software that consumes a lot of energy can be better managed.
For example, when playing a heavy game, Android will be able to better manage the device’s thermal state and CPU and GPU usage, given the dynamism of these applications. The new feature also means that background applications can run while consuming less battery.
