The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation has opened a case against MTS, the agency said in a statement.

The service found that MTS in April and March 2024 increased the cost of cellular services for more than 30 million subscribers by an average of 8%.
FAS carried out an analysis which showed that the increase was not justified by the operator’s higher costs and was not economically justified.
The Antimonopoly Agency believes that such actions of the company undermine the interests of subscribers, which is why an antitrust case was initiated against MTS.
The press service of the telecom operator RB.RU reported that “the increase in subscription fees is economically justified and is due to the increase in MTS costs for spectrum payments, equipment maintenance and infrastructure development, and the need to invest in the expansion and modernization of the network to maintain the quality of communication services known to the population.”
The company also added that it previously provided the FAS with the necessary confirmations.
