A “new middle class” has emerged in Russia. This was noted by Sberbank chief analyst Mikhail Matovnikov, according to RBC.
A new category of the population in terms of income appeared against the background of strong growth in consumption and rising wages, the analyst noted. Over the past year, wages in Russia have increased on average between 16% and 18%, he said.
“And this is the second year of record growth. It is clear that a large number of people have doubled their income,” Matovnikov said.
According to official data from Rosstat, in 2023 real accumulated wages in Russia increased by 7.8%.
