Apple released details to 9to5Mac about iOS 17.5, which caused photos to be removed.

The problem is not that Apple stores deleted photos in iCloud. The error occurred due to a corrupted record in the database stored in the device’s file system.

When deleting photos, in some cases they were synced to iCloud Photo Library but not completely deleted from the device. While remaining in the smartphone system files, they no longer ordered the Photo app and did not sync with iCloud.

The damaged database could have been transferred from one iPhone to another backup adapter (including iCloud) or when transferring data from one smartphone to another. The bug in iOS 17.5 simply restored snapshots that were essentially always on the file system.

Topic: Nudes are back, the hype is changing. Why and where did deleted photos appear on iPhone?

According to Apple, the problem affected a small number of users and photos. The company was not created and does not have access to photos and videos stored on iPhones.

The bug has been fixed in iOS 17.5.1, but recovered snapshots are not automatically deleted. Users need to manually find them and remove them. [9to5Mac]
