Tuesday is the fifth day in St. Petersburg.
On Tuesday, we had only one planned object – the State Museum-Reserve “Peterhof”. It’s understandable. First of all, Peterhof is located about forty kilometers from St. Petersburg. Secondly, the “object” is large, and it is naive to count on the fact that you can “handle” it in a couple of hours.

Peterhof is open for visits every day of the week (no days off) from 09:00 to 19:00.
For more information on hours and prices, click here.
You can buy tickets to enter the territory of the reserve museum, to visit palaces and pavilions, directly at the ticket office in front of the Peterhof entrance. And you can buy an electronic ticket in advance online on the official website. Tickets can be purchased at a discount if you belong to one of the categories for which these discounts are offered (large family, children of a certain age, etc.)
First of all, you need to get to Peterhof. Tourists can choose from three main modes of transportation: electric train, fixed route taxi, and meteor (hydrofoil). Each way to get from Saint Petersburg to Peterhof has its pros and cons. A fixed route taxi (the fastest way) will take you almost to the entrance (with lockers) of the museum-reserve. The train will be on the road for about thirty minutes, but from the train station to the museum-reserve you will have to walk (slowly) for 20-25 minutes. Yes, and the interval of movement of trains in the region of one hour. On a meteor, but along the Gulf of Finland, but with a breeze, quite quickly, plus the romance of moving through the water. Cons: A bit pricey and the pier is located on the “back” side of the museum preserve. We chose a fixed route taxi which was the best option in our opinion.
shuttle taxi
Shuttle taxis leave for Peterhof from the Avtovo metro station (numbers 424, 224, 424A), from the Leninsky Prospekt metro station (number 103) and from the Baltic station (numbers 404 and 054).
electric train
Electric trains to Peterhof depart from the Baltic Station, next to which is the metro station of the same name. You have to take the train to “New Peterhof” station.
Meteor (hydrofoil)
Meteorites in Peterhof depart (sail) from the pier, which is located next to the Hermitage.

Peterhof is called the world capital of fountains. And this is the honest truth! There are many fountains – from the majestic ones, striking in their size and sculptural compositions, to the smallest and “cute”. As they say, for all tastes and colors. Today, ordinary fountains and their principle of operation do not cause any surprises. Factory pipes, a water source in the form of a tap from the municipal water supply system and electric pumps. But how it was possible to create such magnificence several centuries ago, to develop a system of fountains with “gravity” of water (based on changes in elevation and without the use of pumps), to manufacture and lay a system of pipes (not industrial production ), no i can imagine. The geniuses did it!
If we propose to describe the entire Peterhof, but only in a few words, these are palaces, fountains, pavilions, parks, alleys and ponds.
Admission to the Upper Garden (Park) of Peterhof is free. To visit the Peterhof museums (palaces, pavilions) you will need to purchase a separate ticket. We really wanted to get into the Grand Palace, but the queue of people wanting to get in was huge and moving very slowly (I can’t tell if this is always the situation, or we just arrived at that moment).
We walked around Peterhof almost the whole day and got indescribable pleasure from the beauties of the museum-reserve. In addition to the general delight at what he saw, each of us received our own separate, personal “share of happiness.” The daughter fed the squirrels from her hand (there are a lot of them on the territory of Peterhof and they are not afraid of people at all. Tourists are their “legal food base” and the squirrels get food in sufficient quantities and absolutely without any effort for your part).

I, with great pleasure, almost waist-deep in the waters of the Gulf of Finland and meditated on a large rock near the water, watching the meteors with tourists come and go from the pier.

My wife was indescribably delighted to visit the Hermitage pavilion with its lift table lift. The table was served in the kitchen, on the first floor, and with the help of a special mechanism, it was raised to the second floor, causing the indescribable delight of the noble guests.

The most cheerful place in Peterhof, definitely, is the alley with “cookie fountains”. The crazy pleasure of everything that happens is received not only by children, but also by adults. The fountains light up briefly and unexpectedly, pouring water on whoever walks down the alley, “jumps” over the stones of the cookie fountain, or climbs under the mushroom fountain. Tourists who deliberately walk in these places get their share of “fun adrenaline” first from the expectation of a trick and then, already wet, from the realization that they waited.

According to legend, the biscuit fountains light up when one of the passers-by steps on a certain stone or a certain place, under which the mechanism for launching the fountains is hidden. In fact (I read this information after a trip to St. Petersburg), there are special biscuit fountain operators who, sitting on benches, pretend to be tourists and turn on the fountains by lightly pressing their feet on the disguised fountain switching mechanisms. next to the bank.
For us, the day in Peterhof passed very quickly and “in the same breath”. Feelings – delight, delight and once again delight!
For the way back from Peterhof to St. Petersburg, we chose, already tested on the morning of that day, a means of transport: a fixed-route taxi.
