HE WhatsApp is testing the ability to send artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images directly through the app. Recently messaging started testing a search bar with integrated Meta AI.
A new functionality will now be able to allow users to create AI images and send them to their contacts via chat, without the need to use third-party tools. This feature was discovered by WABetaInfo In the beta version of the application for Android.
The button with the blue circle was called “Imagine” and could allow for more interaction with Meta’s AI. Other features may include answering questions, video calling, and chatting with the bot.
It is worth noting that the feature remains in development and will be released later to Beta testers only. There is no estimate as to when we will have this functionality for all users in the final version of WhatsApp.
AI tools will compete for users
This integration of AI into WhatsApp may indicate that tech giants will take full advantage of the tools to compete for users. Anyone can use the browser to access an AI chatbot and create their own images for different purposes. Specialized applications such as ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini also allow this.
However, in the future, the integration of AI with mainstream applications will perhaps be more important than the availability of dedicated applications. Another example of this would be the supposed AI emoji creation feature built into iOS 18, which could be announced soon by Apple.
