D., Ph.D., senior author of the new study and assistant professor of nutritional epidemiology and data science at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Boston. Regardless, a better heart-healthy lifestyle is associated with it, Jiangtao Ma said. actual age, lower biological age, and lower risk of heart disease and stroke, death from these conditions, and death from any cause.

The study examined whether DNA methylation is one of the processes by which cardiovascular disease factors influence cellular aging and risk of death. To do this, experts examined health data from 5,682 adults (average age 56 years; 56% women) enrolled in the Framingham Heart Study project.

All participants were also tested using the American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 tool. This method evaluates a combination of four behavioral indicators (diet, physical activity, nightly sleep duration, and smoking status) and four clinical indicators (body mass index, cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure).

Volunteers were also followed for 11-14 years to identify new cardiovascular disease, death from cardiovascular disease, or death from any cause.

They found that for every 13-point increase in Life’s Essential 8 score, the risk of heart disease decreased by 36% and the rate of death from all causes decreased by 29%.

In participants with a genetic risk profile that increased the likelihood of accelerated biological aging, the Life’s Essential 8 score had a greater impact on outcome through DNA methylation. This process contributed to a 39%, 39%, and 78% reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease, death from cardiovascular disease, and death from any cause, respectively.

Overall, the correlation between Life’s Essential 8 scores and heart health was about 20%, and in people with higher genetic risk, the rate was almost 40%.

Experts say everyone should be aware of the health factors associated with heart disease and stroke. To avoid these situations, it is recommended to eat healthy foods, be more active, stop smoking tobacco, sleep well, maintain a healthy weight, monitor your cholesterol level, blood sugar and blood pressure.
