The study of 2,297 adults with an average age of 44 found that better sleep was significantly associated with reduced overall emotional and social loneliness. Although age did not influence the relationship with social loneliness, the relationship between sleep health and reduced emotional loneliness was stronger in young adults.
The study’s authors emphasized the importance of sleep at all ages. The findings are consistent with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s recommendation that adults should aim for seven hours of sleep per night to maintain optimal health and productivity.
