The study, commissioned by NPR, used artificial intelligence models to analyze voice similarities between 600 actresses. It turns out that Johansson’s voice sounds more like Skye’s than 98% of other actresses. However, Anne Hathaway and Keri Russell’s voices also often sounded similar to Skye’s.

The study, led by Professor Visar Berisha, found “undeniable similarities” between Skye and Johansson’s vocal characteristics. Differences included the higher pitch and expressiveness of Skye’s voice; Johansson’s voice was a little more breathy.

Despite the study’s findings, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and CTO Mira Murati deny that the similarities are intentional. Johansson confirmed that Altman approached her about lending her voice to the model, but she declined. Although Johansson has retained a lawyer, she has not yet filed a lawsuit against OpenAI.
