In The Astronomical Journal, scientists noted that the best region in this regard is the South Pole of the Moon. This is due to the optimum production and purification of water for consumption and the proper management of water resources in general.

The study was based on current estimates of water consumption by American households, which is about 100 gallons per person per day. 100 gallons includes water used not only for drinking and cooking, but also for toileting, washing clothes, and cleaning the house. Calculations also included the use of water for agricultural, technical and other needs of the lunar base.

The calculations relate to a lunar base measuring 500x100x6 meters and accommodating 100 people.
