The update to version 2024.11050.3002.0 brought improvements using the new Windows Application SDK framework, but also caused an issue with increased application launch times.
The main problem is that after the update, apps show a “get ready” screen for about 20 seconds before fully loading. This effect is seen not only in Photos but also in other apps that use the Windows App SDK.
The transition to Windows Application SDK brought positive changes such as reducing the number of processes in the system.
For example, background services such as “PhotosService.exe” are now combined into a single process, making task management easier.
For users who cannot tolerate long loading times, an older version of Photos is available in the Microsoft Store that works fine.
However, for those who want to wait, the new version of the applications offers improved features and a more modern interface.
