Samsung mobile phones will allow users to double-tap to see the time. The new feature will be implemented in a module in the Good Lock application, allowing you to check information without needing to activate the screen.

Discovered by a tipster known as Tarun Vats (@tarunvats33, ex-Twitter), the Good Lock module is called “RegiStar” and works very similar to special gestures on the iPhone and Google Pixel. Taps (double or triple) on the back of the mobile phone can act as shortcuts for certain actions, such as taking a screenshot, accessing the assistant, opening a pop-up window, or opening an app.

According to the tipster, the time shortcut is under development in the app but should only launch on One UI 7 configured with Android 15. This feature will first come to high-end mobile phones such as Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be expanded to more models over time.

The exclusivity of One UI 7 will help differentiate the update from previous versions, but will leave many mobile phones missing the new feature. Devices that are not expected to receive the update will probably not have touch shortcut support on the back.

In any case, if the new feature is to check the time, it won’t be a big loss for older Galaxy phones. Currently, it is possible to check the time by double-tapping directly on the screen or to configure the mobile phone to show the time when the screen is turned up.

There’s no estimate for the feature’s release for now, but if it actually only comes to One UI 7, there’s still months left before the public can try it out.
