In 2024, SPIEF announced that payment via biometrics will be possible in Kazan this summer and in Nizhny Novgorod at the end of 2024.
Citizens will be able to use biometric data registered in the Unified Biometric System (SBS) to cover travel expenses.
This will allow regions to implement payments using biometrics without additional cost to create their own digital infrastructure that meets strict data security requirements.
Interest in biometric technologies is growing, and this is confirmed by the increase in the number of EBS users.
According to Grigorenko, approximately 2 million citizens have registered their biometrics in the system, and more than 55 percent of the registrations have been made in the first six months of 2024.
