The previous administration proposed introducing a tourist tax for foreigners of 300 baht (about $8). It was planned to use the funds to support tourists affected by accidents and the development of the tourism industry.
The introduction of a tourist tax will generate “short-term revenue” and without it, more tourists will visit Thailand, which will have a greater impact on the economy, current authorities believe.
Since June 2024, Thailand has expanded the list of visa-free countries from 57 to 93, including Russia. The maximum period of stay for tourists from there was increased from 30 to 60 days.
