Apple announced iPadOS 18 during WWDC 2024 this Monday (10). The new system will be distributed with many new features, including features with artificial intelligence (AI) – here called Apple Intelligence – and the long-awaited native Calculator app.
iPadOS 18 has features very similar to those of iOS 18. More customization tools and deep integration with AI. The highlight of the suite is the Apple Intelligence platform, a broad set of tools focused on studying the personal context of text, images, actions and actions on the device.
Another big announcement of the day was the long-awaited Calculator app on the iPad. The new feature offers interesting features such as Apple Pencil support, character recognition and autocorrection.
iPads are now supported by a system called Smart Script; This system uses machine learning in conjunction with Apple Pencil to enhance the user’s writing but preserve the original strokes.
Moreover, all personalization features of iOS 18 will also be available in iPadOS 18. Therefore, the user will be able to customize the home screen and Control Center as he wishes, just like on Android.
Compatible with iPads released in 2018
But the news does not reach everyone. Some older iPad models were left behind in this wave. Supported models include:
- iPadPro: 2018 (or newer);
- iPadAir: 2019 (or newer);
- iPadmini: 2019 (or newer);
- iPad: 2019 (or newer).
Some devices were excluded from the list, such as the 10.5″ iPad Pro with Apple A10 Fusion processor, the 2nd generation 12.9″ iPad Pro and the 6th generation iPad. Naturally, the models launched at the event in May will be compatible with the new system.
