WWDC, Apple’s annual conference for developers, took place this Monday (10). Key developments include the arrival of Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) system, the new iOS 18, and updates to the company’s overall operating systems. Check out the best news the company has to offer at the event now!

1. Apple Intelligence

The main highlight of the event was the new Apple Intelligence system, which puns on the term “AI.” The company follows other giants like Google and Microsoft in bringing AI resources to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Thus, the system will be able to use more powerful and contextual resources based on generative models.

Apple Intelligence will be available in the new Siri, it will be able to understand language, images and take action based on users’ personal information, as well as create new images and emojis.

But the company assures that everything will be done very safely, considering that most of the functions are reproduced locally. The company states that if it needs to be done in the cloud, everything will be processed on servers using its own chips.

Other features include prioritizing notifications, summarizing messages and emails, writing and reviewing texts, and much more.

2. New Siri with artificial intelligence support

Siri also received a major update during WWDC. Now Apple says it’s more natural, relevant and personal.

Siri has a new look and animation and is integrated with Apple Intelligence. This way, you may even miss a word while speaking, which he can understand and offer more details.

Some contextual features will be available with the new assistant. For example, you can ask about the weather at the beach on a specific date. Then, when you ask Siri to create an event on your calendar for the same date, it will understand that you plan to be in that area.

It will also be able to “see” what’s on your screen to provide more contextual information, such as addresses. The new Siri will be available on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

3. Partnership between ChatGPT and Apple

As expected, Apple and OpenAI have partnered to bring ChatGPT features to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Users will be able to use the GPT-4o-based chatbot for free, with features that include understanding images and documents. ChatGPT will be available in the system’s authoring tools and rendering, as well as Siri.

ChatGPT will come to iPhone, iPad, and Mac “later this year,” but the companies haven’t set any dates yet.

4. iOS 18

The new iOS 18 was one of the big stars of WWDC. Apple is bringing more customization tools in the update, including the option to place icons anywhere on the home screen and change their colors.

iOS 18 Control Center has also been redesigned. According to Apple, it will be possible to create more pages within the Center, such as media playback and commands for smart homes.

Other new features in iOS 18 include the option to change lock screen shortcuts, locking apps with Face ID, Touch ID or passcode, and a more personalized Photos app. The company even promised a much more advanced visual search with the update.

5. RCS and satellite messaging support

This feature is a bit “small” but has been requested for a long time. In fact, Google was one of the major companies that “invited” Apple to bring support. With iOS 18, iPhones will support the RCS messaging standard, which brings more tools for chatting with Android mobile phones, for example. Additionally, the new system now supports satellite messaging.

6. You’ll be able to use your iPhone on your Mac

With the new macOS Sequoia, Apple will allow users to access their iPhones directly from their computers.

iPhone and Mac

It will be possible to navigate the iPhone using the mouse and keyboard, but there will be no need to unlock the mobile phone. iPhone notifications will also appear on Mac. Click on such notification and iPhone mirroring will start automatically.

7.visionOS 2

This is the first major update to the Apple Vision Pro operating system with VisionOS 2. Apple promises improvements in productivity and entertainment with the new feature.

VisionOS 2

For example, VisionOS 2 allows the user to access “Spatial Photos.” In the Photos app, the system will be able to transform a 2D image into a new 3D image for more immersive viewing with glasses.

Apple is also bringing new gestures to the Vision Pro, as well as a new Travel Mode to be used on trains. The company also offers the ability to view larger, high-resolution screens using glasses. In fact, the company will launch the device globally in the coming weeks, but Brazil is not yet on the list.

8. Calculator app on iPad

After 14 years, Apple has finally brought a native calculator app to the iPad. Yes, one of the great apps of iPadOS 18 in 2024 is the calculator. It is very similar to the iPhone app but has Apple Pencil support.

To make it a little different, it will be possible to write math problems using Apple Pencil to find solutions, for example.

9.Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is getting a new feature called InSight, which is very similar to what Amazon Prime Video offers. With it, the user will be able to check real-time information about actors and actresses in a production as well as general details about TV series and movies.

10. Passwords App

A new app called Passwords was also announced during WWDC. It is a password manager integrated into Apple systems that uses iCloud to sync information. It allows you to manage public passwords as well as passkeys and even Wi-Fi network passwords.
