Two women who worked at Apple for more than 10 years filed a lawsuit against the company.

They believe Apple systematically underpays its engineering, marketing and AppleCare departments. In total, according to their data, more than 12 thousand receive lower salaries than women and men in intermediate positions.

Additionally, Apple calculates starting salaries based on their earnings from previous jobs or their “salary expectations.” This results in lower prices for women. The performance appraisal system the company uses to increase salaries is biased against women.

Apple denies all allegations. A company spokesperson said it is committed to inclusivity and fairness in its “fantastic work.”

In 2017, Apple achieved and maintained geographic equity in global labor, and each year we work with an independent, outside expert who reviews each team member’s base pay and makes adjustments as needed to determine that we are practicing equity in global labor.

The plaintiffs were represented by the law firms of Outten & Golden, Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll and Altshuler Berzon. They previously settled similar cases with Goldman Sachs in 2023 for $215 million and with Sterling Jewelers in 2022 for $175 million. [Reuters]
