At the end of 2022, the proportion of people over 60 years of age in Poland was 25.9% of the entire population (9.8 million people). It is expected that 10.3 million people over the age of 60 will live in this country in 2030, and 11.4 million people in 2040. This process is typical for the European Union as a whole, only in Poland it occurs much faster.
The PolSenior2 study showed that almost 70% of Polish citizens aged 60-65 and 90% of those aged 80-90 now have two or more chronic diseases. People over 75 have at least five chronic diseases.
Older people in Poland mostly suffer from cardiovascular, oncological, respiratory diseases, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, as well as type 2 diabetes, mental disorders and dementia.
In addition, immunity decreases in the elderly and infectious diseases are often more severe.
