Total spending by tourists in Russia over five years increased 1.8 times and by the end of 2023 it amounted to 1.8 trillion rubles, according to a study by SberAnalytics carried out in June. Anonymous retrospective data on tourist flows and vacationer spending were used for the analysis.

“People are willing to spend more on restaurants, entertainment and hotels. “Accommodation accounts for around a third of all holiday expenses,” the study notes.

Tourists spent the most money in Moscow, the Moscow region, the Kuban, St. Petersburg, the Leningrad region and Tatarstan. According to analysts, the largest number of young tourists comes from the North Caucasus.

In the five years since 2019, domestic tourist flows in Russia have increased by 32%. In the 2020 pandemic year, 92 million citizens took vacations within the country, in 2021 and 2022, 115 million, and in 2023, 153 million, which represented a record in five years of observation. SberAnalytics expects the dynamics to be positive in 2024.
