Announcing his departure from LinkedIn, Burke will move to a consultancy role and work with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai on the potential use of artificial intelligence in drug discovery, especially in childhood cancers.
These leadership changes follow Google’s recent restructuring, which merged its Android and hardware teams into a new Platforms and Devices team led by Rick Osterloh. At the same time, Hiroshi Lockheimer, who was previously responsible for Android, Chrome and ChromeOS, moves on to other projects, and Samir Samat becomes the head of the Android ecosystem.
A broader restructuring of Google’s platforms and devices division is reportedly underway. Additionally, Google plans to integrate ChromeOS development with the Android technology stack to accelerate the rollout of new features.
