Scientists recorded three powerful solar flares on Sunday, one of which almost reached class X. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics.
On June 23, at 16:01 Moscow time, an M9.3 explosion occurred that lasted 20 minutes. M2.4 and M1.2 flares were also recorded, all of which caused disruptions in HF radio communications. As a result of these events, the impact of solar X-ray bursts on the Earth’s ionosphere reached the R2 level, which is considered moderate on a fivefold scale; R5 is an extreme level.
In early May solar emissions caused the strongest magnetic storm since 2005, reaching G5 extreme levels. Later, astronomers recorded several more powerful solar flares.
