The Information reports that Apple has a new method for making it easier to replace iPhone batteries. This is necessary to comply with new European legislation.
Currently, replacing an iPhone battery requires replacing the existing battery using tweezers, which are held in place by adhesive strips. You then need to use a “specialized device and tray” to push the new battery into place.
A new process called “electro-induced adhesive debonding” uses metal instead of foil to cover batteries. But people will still want to be able to get to the battery themselves, bypassing the adhesive when opening an iPhone.
Despite this change, Apple will still use iPhones for professional battery replacements.
