In honor of the event, NASA released a panoramic photo of the Olympus volcano, the tallest volcano in the solar system.

Located near the equator of Mars, Olympus has a base of 600 km in diameter and rises up to 27 km. Odyssey captured this giant in March 2024.

Note that the new image shows a bluish-white dust cloud above the volcano and a purple layer that is likely a mixture of atmospheric dust and water ice clouds.

The bluish green layer represents water clouds at an altitude of about 30 miles (48 km).

To create this panorama, Odyssey turned slowly so its camera could capture the Martian horizon. This is what made it possible to see Olympus at full scale.
