A pilot project for a unified QR code for payment has been launched in Russia. Kommersant writes about this with reference to Vadim Kulik, deputy chairman of the board of directors of VTB.

Currently, the pilot project includes nine banks and 800 commercial and service companies using a single QR code within the framework of the project, Kulik said.

In total, the pilot group of the Bank of Russia and the National Payment Card System included 15 Russian banks.

Earlier, the Bank of Russia proposed transferring control of the universal QR code to an “equidistant operator.” This will help “eliminate the dependence of market participants on the largest players.”
