Twilio released a statement confirming the hack and said that unknown parties were able to access data associated with Authy accounts, including phone numbers.
While Twilio assures that there is no evidence that hackers accessed other sensitive data or Twilio systems, it is “critical” to update to the latest versions of its iOS and Android apps.
Although Authy accounts were not hacked, the exposed phone numbers could be used for phishing attacks.
Twilio encourages all Authy users to be alert to unexpected messages, especially those claiming to be from Authy or Twilio.
