The Biobot is based on the chassis of a lunar rover and can also act as a cart that follows an astronaut, loaded with various instruments and collected samples. However, the main task of such a robot is to assist the person as an automatic transport vehicle for the life support system.
The assistant robot will carry the life support system behind the astronaut, and will be supplied with oxygen through a hose connected to the spacesuit. This will allow the astronaut to bend down more easily to pick up various samples, tools and other items from the lunar surface.
NASA has already taken an interest in the project. The Biobot developers received a grant from the agency’s Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program. In general, the agency is seriously preparing to land humans on Earth’s moon.
