In April 2023, the GAZ automobile plant filed a claim against Volkswagen for 28.4 billion rubles. It concerned, in particular, the recovery of actual damages in the amount of 2.5 billion rubles for investments in preparing the production of cars with Volkswagen engines and 5.2 billion rubles in compensation for dealers’ claims for the lack of supply of such cars (Skoda and Volkswagen).

Another 20.7 billion rubles of claims are related to lost profits due to the discontinuation of serial production of these machines. The Arbitration Court of the Nizhny Novgorod region decided to recover 16.9 billion rubles in damages in favor of the defendant, as well as 40 thousand euros of debt and 119 thousand euros of expenses for payment of state fees.

In 2022, Volkswagen stopped assembling cars in Russia and also suspended deliveries to the country due to the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine.

In May 2023, Avilon Holding completed the purchase of Volkswagen’s Russian assets; the buyer of the business was Art-Finance LLC, owned by the holding company. Sources estimated the deal to be worth €125 million.
